The National Hurricane Center has now upgraded Michael to a Category 2 Hurricane. It is forecast to impact the Florida panhandle as a Category 3 Hurricane. As of now, Colquitt County is under a hurricane warning and the Governor of Georgia has declared Colquitt County under a state of emergency.

Here locally, we can expect sustained tropical force winds from 39-73 mph with the possibility of Category 1 Hurricane winds from 74-110 mph. We can also expect rainfall anywhere from 7 to 10 inches. The greatest threat to the City of Doerun will be wind. Power outages over the span of multiple days should be expected and planned for.

The City of Doerun does NOT expect to have any water outages through the Hurricane. We have a generator for use to power pump stations to keep customers supplied with water.

In terms of arrival time, we can expect to feel wind gusts as early as midnight tonight with conditions deteriorating into Wednesday morning. Hurricane conditions are expected Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening.

There is no evacuation order for Colquitt County, however it is strongly recommended that you seek shelter in a hard structure prior to Wednesday morning. There is no curfew in effect at this time but we STRONGLY advise staying indoors and sheltering in place throughout tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. Roadways will likely be impassable Thursday morning as well. Please stay home and shelter in place. Should a curfew be implemented we will notify citizens as quickly as possible.

Colquitt County Schools will be closed Wednesday through Friday. There has not been a decision made on the football game Friday night. Please refer to the Colquitt County Schools website for additional information on schools and high school sports activities / schedules.
